When everything comes together, Tannenberg is likely one of the best ways to experience the terror and bloodshed of the first World War. There are six squads, 50+ weapons, six large maps that give players tactical freedom, and a 64 player game mode with full AI bot support so you can experience. Two of the modes in Tannenberg arent even playable unless you want to play. The audience for this game is split with Verdun, its predecessor, and there simply isnt enough here to make playing it the clear choice. But the historical accuracy, attention to detail, and map design are all phenomenal. That being said, I cant recommend it for the sheer fact that the player count is far too low. There is a lot to take issue with, from long load times to low player counts to disruptive glitches. This can also interfere with hit boxes, and nothing kills the fun faster than uselessly pumping two full clips into an enemy soldier as they spin and jerk and shudder in circles around you. Unstable connections are worryingly common, and the nerve-wracking immersion Tannenberg so brilliantly sets up is blown right out of the water when the trenches are occupied by soldiers jumping and glitching around the field. Unfortunately, low player count is not the only thing threatening Tannenberg's online experience. This goes for the overall match as well comebacks from near-certain defeat are entirely possible when there are other players involved, and daring stratagems can often pay dividends. Firefights taking place across wide fields are deeply intense, requiring patience and a steady hand, and the outcome is never certain. When there are other players the game is difficult and harrowing in the best way. Even a full complement of players in Maneuver is a rarity.
At release Tannenberg's player base is very small, and it can be hard to find even a single person playing any game mode other than Maneuver.
